Using the 4 Mastery Design Collaborative principles, our aim is to provide a learning environment that optimizes the learning potential of each or our unique students.
Place - Students can access diverse, flexible learning spaces that maximize attending skills, communication opportunities and learning time.
People - Students can access multiple people resources, both in the special education and general education environment, to support their
social and learning progress.
Pace - Students work on their individualized learning objectives at their own pace.
Path - Students are offered multiple learning pathways to develop their agency, knowledge and skills.

Using multi-modal communication tools and strategies, students learn to "say what they want to say, to whoever they want to say it to, whenever they want to say it."

- optimization of natural vocalizations and speech,
- picture communication systems (e.g. PODD, customized picture communication books, etc.)
- voice output communication aids
- communication applications (e.g. LAMP, Touch Chat, Proloquo2Go)
- high-tech communication devices
- sign language
Language instructional strategies include:
- Conceptualization - Providing students with the explorations and experiences needed to develop language concepts.
- Lexicalization - Teaching students the words that express the concepts (names of people, places, things, actions, descriptions), and how to access the vocabulary in their communication systems.
- Grammaticalization - Teaching students word variation and word order; and how to use their communication systems to create novel sentences that are grammatically accurate.
- Articulation - Teaching students how to access their multi-modal communication system to express their thoughts using speech, communication devices, and sign language gestures.
